Four were convertibles, and one had the new power top. Members present were treated to an demonstration of the ease of use and the flawless operation of the new power top.

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. today announced its latest marketing program, "The GM 72-Hour Sale," which runs from Sept. 28-30, 2004. Qualified buyers are able to finance a new GM vehicle through GMAC for 72 months at 0 percent interest. All 2004 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Pontiac and Oldsmobile cars and light duty trucks are included in this program.

"A great deal like this doesn't come around very often," said John Smith, group vice president, GM North America Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing. "We think consumers will respond very favorably to this offer, but they need to act quickly as the program lasts only three days. GM offers the most wide-reaching portfolio of vehicles, including high performance vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette and the Pontiac GTO and the broadest lineup of SUVs in the business - ranging from the Chevy TrailBlazer to the GMC Yukon Denali. We also offer more segment-leading fuel efficient vehicles than any other manufacturer. Combine all this with interest-free financing for up to 72 months, and consumers will find truly great values during GM's 72-Hour Sale."

"The GM 72-Hour Sale" will be supported by a national advertising campaign scheduled to run from Sept. 23-30. It will include network television, newspapers, radio, interactive and extensive dealer promotions.

What’s In Your Tank?
A new class of gasoline, called Top Tier Detergent Gasoline, will be appearing at retail stations of some fuel marketers. This gasoline meets detergency standards developed by four automotive companies. A description of the concept and benefits of Top Tier is provided in the following question and answer section.

What is Top Tier Detergent Gasoline?
Top Tier Detergent Gasoline is a new class of gasoline with enhanced detergency. It meets new, voluntary deposit control standards developed by four automotive companies that exceed the detergent requirements imposed by the EPA.

Who developed Top Tier Detergent Gasoline standards?
Top Tier Detergent Gasoline standards were developed by four automotive companies: BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota.

Why was Top Tier Detergent Gasoline developed?
Top Tier Detergent Gasoline was developed to increase the level of detergent additive in gasoline. The EPA requires that all gasoline sold in the U.S. contain a detergent additive. However, the requirement is minimal and in many cases, is not sufficient to keep engines clean. In order to meet Top Tier Detergent Gasoline standards, a higher level of detergent is needed than what is required by the EPA. Also, Top Tier was developed to give fuel marketers the opportunity to differentiate their product.

Why did the four automotive companies join together to develop Top Tier?
All four corporations recognized the benefits to both the vehicle and the consumer. Also, joining together emphasized that low detergency is an issue of concern to several automotive companies.

What are the benefits of Top Tier Detergent Gasoline?
Top Tier Detergent Gasoline will help keep engines cleaner than gasoline containing the "Lowest Additive Concentration" set by the EPA. Clean engines help provide optimal fuel economy and performance and reduced emissions. Also, use of Top Tier Detergent Gasoline will help reduce deposit related concerns.

Who should use Top Tier Detergent Gasoline?
All vehicles will benefit from using Top Tier Detergent Gasoline over gasoline containing the "Lowest Additive Concentration" set by the EPA. Those vehicles that have experienced deposit related concerns may especially benefit from use of Top Tier Detergent Gasoline.

Where can Top Tier Detergent Gasoline be purchased?
The Top Tier program began on May 3, 2004. Some fuel marketers have already joined and are making plans to introduce Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. This is a voluntary program and not all fuel marketers will offer this product. Once fuel marketers make public announcements, a list of all fuel marketers meeting Top Tier standards will be made available. For now, look for the "Top Tier" designation at the gas pump near you.

C5/C6 Registry Update
As Most of you know Jake Drennon and myself are both State Farm Insurance agents in Florida. My office is in Merritt Island which is the southern half of the Kennedy Space Center and my house is on Cocoa Beach. Both place were on the North side of the storm and were hit by the Eye Wall as Frances came ashore.

Jake's home is on Merritt Island and his office is in Titusville which is 20 miles north  of Merritt Island. At this point we have had moderate damage and have no electricity in our offices, but both Jake and I,  and our families are OK which is the most important thing. Both our homes are still habitable,  but with moderate damage, and as of today, finally, electricity. We are also setting up generators at our offices to handle the expected flood of claims. We have not internet services or phones at any of our locations at this time. Marginal cell phone service is our means or communication.

We ask that the members bare with us during this time since most of our waking hours will be spent taking care of our insured's and we will not have a lot of time for Registry business. Please keep emails to the C5 Registry office to a minimum as not to stack up in the incoming mail, the Registry office has no power yet, no internet service, and marginal phone service. Kathy will be in the office at times but she also has damage to her home, and again, phone service at the office is iffy.

We hope to be back to normal in 30 days but I will keep you all informed.

C5 Ya!

2004 (Selected VIN's Only) Recall #
04V273000 .
This recall affects 41,928 2004 C5's only and we've heard the range of VIN Number is between 18578 and 27799, but the Registry suggests you check with your dealer.

Here is a copy of the Recall Notice:

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL STUD NUT/WASHER ASSEMBLIES WITH WASHERS WERE MADE OF THE WRONG MATERIAL. THE WASHERS MAY FRACTURE AND BECOME LOOSE OR FALL AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, REDUCING CLAMP LOAD. SEPARATION OF THE CONTROL ARM BALL STUD AND STEERING KNUCKLE, DUE TO DISENGAGEMENT OF THE TAPERED ATTACHMENT AND RETAINING NUT, IS POSSIBLE.

IF THE CONTROL ARM SEPARATES FROM THE KNUCKLE, THE AFFECTED CORNER OF THE VEHICLE WILL DROP AND THE CONTROL ARM WOULD BE FORCED DOWNWARD, CONTACTING THE WHEEL. THE AFFECTED WHEEL COULD TILT OUTWARD AND CREATE A DRAGGING ACTION THAT WOULD TEND TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND CREATE A TENDENCY FOR THE VEHICLE TO TURN IN THE DIRECTION OF THE AFFECTED WHEEL. IN EXTREME SITUATIONS, THE AFFECTED WHEEL ASSEMBLY COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. SEPARATION OF THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WOULD ALSO SEVER THAT WHEEL;S HYDRAULIC BRAKE HOSE AND RESULT IN DIMINISHED BRAKING PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BALL STUD JOINTS AND MEASURE THE TORQUE OF THE NUT FOR ALL FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS IN ALL MODELS AFFECTED AS WELL AS THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON THE XLR AND CORVETTE. IF THE TORQUE IS NOT AT SPECIFICATION, THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BALL STUD, THE KNUCKLE, AND THE NUT. IF THE TORQUE IS AT SPECIFICATION, THE DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE NUT/WASHER ASSEMBLY ONLY. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON AUGUST 25, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339 OR CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438.

GM RECALL NO. 04043. CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATIONS AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

 August 31, 2004

The Last C5 Off the Line!
Registry Members
The last C5 rolled off the line on Thursday, July 1, 2004. It began its journey down the line at 6:20 am on June 29, 2004, and was driven off by Roger Hagan, final line assembler, at 1:35 pm on Thursday. VIN # 1G1YY22GX45134064, Job # 38840 was a Commemorative Edition automatic Coupe with polished wheels, HUD and lots more.

Lynn Herron, Quality Audit Supervisor at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, shared her feelings about the last day of production: “As with the last C4, I experienced joy and sadness. The C5 has been my favorite design and the customer’s enthusiasm has been so enjoyable. The joy came due to the pride the C5 generated. The C5 reinforced the fact the Corvette is an American icon. It’s a symbol of class, power and ‘American Made!’ The sadness came due to the fact it was the end of an era. I felt the same way with the C4. When you work with a generation of Corvette day after day and come in to work on the new generation, the sadness dissipates ever so swiftly. I’m experiencing so much excitement about the new C6 that I’m sure, along with the rest of the team here at Bowling Green, that the future will bring even more joy and pride. This certainly is a special time for everyone at Bowling Green.”

Torch Red…or something like it has been approved
Registry Members - FINALLY the powers to be at C6 are listening.  All during the Birthday Bash, especially at the seminars, it became very evident from our members that a C6 without TORCH RED was not what the members envisioned.  Our members wanted something similar to Torch Red to be offered in the C6 color palette.  We have learned that our concern about no Torch Red was taken seriously by GM management and effective sometime after start of production the additional “NEW VERSION” of C6 Torch Red (which we are very sure will have a new name) will be offered to Corvette owners when they order their new C6.  Let’s have some fun with this and submit names that we think GM should call this new red.  We will gather all the emails and forward them to our friends at GM.  At the Registry Office our personal favorite so far is “it’s about time RED”!  So if you would like to submit a name for this new C6 red which will be unveiled after the start of production, we will pass it on.  This should be some GREAT C6 FUN !!!

So, let's help them give this new color a name! Send your suggestions, for a name, Click on this link, include your Name, Member Number, and what you think the color should be named. Be sure and do this before  June 18, 2004!

The last
C5 convertible, #36,099 in LeMans Blue, came off the final line on Monday morning. A special banner for all employees to sign commemorated the event. The National Corvette Museum (NCM) raffled the last convertible during the Corvette Forum on May 29. The winner, Glen Groeneweg of Lowell, Michigan said, “I am so surprised and shocked!” This is my first time purchasing a ticket and it is hard to believe that I won – I have never won anything.” Glen currently owns a 1978 and 1986 Corvette and looks forward to coming to the Museum soon to pick up his new Corvette, said Bobbie Jo Lee of NCM Communications.

June 4, 2004
The last
C5 convertible was scheduled to come off-line on Monday, June 7th. The build of the very last C5 is just weeks away. The final one of the popular fifth generation Corvettes is currently slated for build the week of June 28th.

GM made a terrific showing in the just-released Strategic Vision 2004 Total Quality Index (TQI), providing further evidence that GM is making significant strides in its quest for quality leadership in the automotive industry. Among GM's 11 of 19 segment winners were the Corvette and XLR. Chevrolet ledin five segments, Cadillac topped three segments (and had the highest scoring model - the Cadillac XLR), Saturn had two wins and Buick had one.

With the ending of the C5 era, the #1 Membership email is …Registry Members We were just taking a survey the other day of all the emails we’ve received in the C5 Registry office, not counting the C5Net.  We have received over 500,000+ emails.  THAT’S A BUNCH since 1997!!!  The ONE email topic received most often relates to C5 DEAD batteries, C5 WEAK batteries, and C5 LEAKING batteries.  GM had several battery designs throughout the course of the 1997– 2003 C5 run all with pretty dismal track records.  In 2004 GM changed all new vehicle production to the 1950s style top post.  In this case it sure seems like “the old ways are the best ways.”  The final year of the C5 benefits from this vast improvement…Hallelujah!!!

Some time ago we stated that if you have a C5, you need a BATTERY EXTENDER.  We have used many over the years for our C5 Show Corvette and have found the best one for us to be “Auto Meter Pro Tech Series 12 Volt Battery Extender Model 9201” by Auto Meter Products, Inc. of Sycamore, Illinois.  In our opinion, they have the technology down on their micro controlled charging which charges your C5 with one amp and a 250 mill amp for a maintenance charge to keep your C5 battery at precisely full charge!  Auto Meter Products include a 36 month limited warranty from date of purchase.  The 12 Volt Extender is available through many of our Corporate Members.  It normally sells for around $60.  So in an effort to cut down on the next 500,000+ emails during the C6 era…PLEASE GO OUT AND BUY AN AUTO METER EXTENDER!!!

THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING…ON FINAL C5 ORDERS FOR PRODUCTION

Registry Members –  It’s hard to believe after an eight-year run the end of the C5 era of production is quickly coming upon us.  Just off the phone with several of our Registry Dealers indicates almost all orders are Coupes only and the list of what you CAN’T get is larger than the list of what you can.  NO 1SA packages, NO C2L Dual Roof packages, NO ULO AM/FM cassette players, NO 1YY67 Convertibles, NO 10U Arctic White, NO 70U Torch Red, NO 88U Medium Spiral Gray Metallic, NO 79U Millennium Yellow, and NO 1YY07 Coupes with 1SA base package.   As you can tell, all colors have been discontinued except Machine Silver, Corvette Black and Le Mans Blue.  The Z06s have gone into diet mode as there will be very few produced, with the exception of the final months run of Z16 Commemorative Edition Z06s.  Also, those interested in one of the last Commemorative Edition Coupes need to get your order in NOW!  All indications are that there are only two ordering weeks left for C5s!

It is with great sadness that I wish to tell the C5 Registry that our friend Chip Miller, who founded Corvettes @ Carlisle and Carlisle Productions passed away early this morning after a heroic battle with amyloidosis, a very rare plasma cell disease. Our prayers go out to his wife Judy and his family. We will let you know as more information becomes available as to any arrangements that are made. Chip was an inspiration to me personally with his advise and foresight. The Corvette hobby has lost a great supporter and a great friend. His family has been keeping a journal at www.caringbridge.org/pa/chipmiller/ . We hope that you will  visit the site and sign the guest book to let the family know that you are thinking about them. If you would like to send cards, letters, etc. to Judy and the family, their address is:

The Funeral is Sat April 3rd 2004 in Carlisle, PA

Please join Jake and I in praying for Chip and his family.

MAKING HISTORY! - Johnny O'Connell became the first driver to score six class wins in the legendary Sebring event as he drove a Corvette to his third straight GTS class win. O'Connell teamed with Ron Fellows and Max Papis to take the GTS class win in a Chevrolet Corvette C5-R, finishing fourth overall and winning the class by 22 laps. "It's amazing," he said. "I've been fortunate to have excellent cars. The C5-R is one of the most important cars in history, and our new Michelin tires made a huge difference."

"Fourth overall is pretty impressive," said Fellows. "Pit stops in the are were flawless. Sebring is a tough race, but we've learned how to win. We were more careful getting out of the pits after the clutch problem on the #4 car. We have to say thanks to Michelin, we couldn't have done this without them. We need them to win Le Mans, it is part of the evolution of the program."

Finishing second in the GTS class was the Barron Connor Racing Ferrari 575 GTC of Danny Sullivan, John Bosch and Thomas Biagi, followed by the ACEMCO Saleen S7R of Terry Borcheller, Johnny Mowlem and David Brabham

Registry Members: Words just in that Brent Dewar, Chevy General Marketing Manager, will be at the 12 Hours of Sebring. For those of you who have not met Mr. Dewar, he is a true Corvette aficionado. His love for Corvette goes way back. We are very fortunate to have Mr. Dewar at the helm of Chevrolet marketing during their new campaign "REVOLUTION".

David Hill just informed us that he plans to see that Brent Dewar visits the Corvette Corral while he is attending Sebring.

Members, we really need to put out the welcome sign to this wonderful gentleman. We spent some time with him at the 50th Anniversary Corvette Celebration in Nashville. For those of you who have your Fall 2003 C5 Registry Commemorative Issue Newsletter, Brent is on the front cover in the passenger seat riding with Bob Patrella (Y3932) in his '53 Vette in the parade through downtown Nashville.

It's important that he knows how much we, the Corvette customer, really appreciates our favorite automobile, the Corvette, being on the race circuit around the world. Our enthusiasm will be what he sees and remembers after he's left the corral. Here's our chance to really speak with someone at the top who makes decisions regarding our Corvettes. I know all of you are as proud as we are of the success our C5-R has had in the ALMS racing circuit representing all of us who are C5 owners.

Don't forget to bring your paint pen or Sharpie pen so you can be one of the few that has Brent Dewar's signature on your C5.

And REMEMBER, if you don't have a photo of this signing with you in it...IT DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!

You get the point, have someone take the picture of you and Brent Dewar when he is signing your C5.

Direct from GM Racing Regarding Sebring Corral
Registry Members –.We have just received the following from GM Racing:

"Due to budget cutbacks, we will have the corral area and will have a limited amount of water and soda. There will be no food this year. The corral will be a combination of Cadillac and Corvette on Friday and the Corvette only on Saturday. The corral will open at 7:30 on Saturday. It has been moved to turn 1 (one)."

We are planning to once again attend the 12 Hours of Sebring, where the C5-R will be participating in this world famous race. Similar to previous years, the festivities will kick off at 8:00 am at the Corvette Corral where we will have a tent and parking for C5 Registry members. Please remember since Chevrolet sponsors this Parking Corral you must be driving a Corvette in order to be eligible to park in the Corvette Corral. Space is limited to the first 50 Corvettes. There may be an overflow area if there are more Corvettes. Be aware that it is possible that a PASS MAY BE required (details to follow). We are working with Chevrolet to finalize these CORRAL PARKING details. So keep checking the Events page for details. Please bring your C5 Registry name badge to gain entry into the hospitality area. Hotels are hard to come by, so if you plan on staying in the area, you need to make your arrangements very soon. Due to Sebring’s location, there will be no host hotel or dinner for this event. Keep checking our Events page http://www.c5registry.com/events.htm as we finalize details. For more information on race tickets, call the Sebring International Raceway at 1-863-655-1442 (Fax 863-655-1777).

Since this is a one-day event, we do not have a Registry host hotel or a dinner planned. If you need accommodations, we suggest you get them early. Sebring is a small town and the rooms are gone quickly. For those of you interested, practice for the actual race begins on Wednesday, March 17, with minor races running on Thursday and Friday.

Finally a Battery that will Last !!!
Registry Members
If the C6 doesn’t do anything else for Corvette owners, it will finally provide a battery that will actually last.  Our “006 Agent” has just risked his very soul in getting us the most recent test results regarding battery “stand times” from the “battery test central command”.  Drum roll please…the new C6 flooded battery for 2005 should last in an unused mode 52 DAYS! Yes, that’s right, 52 DAYS!!! As opposed to our wonderful C5 AGM (gray in color) battery used from 1999 though 2003 which could survive (if you were very, very lucky!) only 25 DAYS!  At least the 2004 final year C5s received a special newly designed flooded battery that is reported to be good for up to 41 DAYS. Our question is simple – If the C6 battery with the new “TOP MOUNT TERMINAL” design is ready, why don’t they give it to us now???

Twin 125’s, Daytona 500, and Indy.
C5 Registry Members
– Name three events where the greatest sports car in the world paced the race? (I know, you’re all thinking this sounds like a Johnny Carson "Carnac the Magnificent" episode with answers, then questions.) Great news, there definitely will be an Indy 500 C5 Pace Corvette for this very prestigious race. The bad news, there is no current plan to reproduce an Indy 500 Pace Replica C5 for members to buy. This is going to be a great year for the 2004 C5 as it will be the Pace Car for many of NASCAR races and other racing venues around the country. We visited with Jim Campbell (Corvette Brand Manager prior to Rick Baldick) at Daytona last week and he shared with us that C5 Corvettes are going to be very busy pacing the country. If you were at Daytona or watched on TV, the Twin 125’s on Thursday, February 12th, were paced by an Arctic White C5 Coupe with orange and green decal/paint motif to represent Gatorade, who sponsors the Twin 125 race. On Sunday, February 15th, the Daytona 500 was paced by a Millennium Yellow C5 Coupe striped with a very unique Daytona 500 decal package.

For all you Johnny Carson fans (like we are) you might want to check out some of his old answers and questions at johnnycarson.com/carson/entertainment/carnac/video2.jsp . You will need QuickTime to run the video clips. Dan’s favorite is titled "Cannonball Run" located near the bottom of the list. Prepare to laugh!

2004 C5 Sales Break All-Time January Record Ever!
C5 Registry Members
– The old girl still has some major life left in her! Our eight model year old class leader finished January 2004 with its BEST EVER recorded sales of 2,986 C5s sold. We were number one in the "sports car segment" market! We beat the one-year old new comer Nissan’s 350Z with sales of 2,431, Porsche Boxer with sales of 260, Porsche 911 with sales of 584, BMWs Z4 with sales of 333, Chrysler’s really new Cross Fire with sales of 470, and Mazda’s RX8 with sales of 1,789. This is something I know all of our members are very proud of. With Chevrolet incentives on C5s possibly going up, we look forward to seeing our C5 break every month’s record in the first half of 2004.

GM Recall:
Corvette model years 1997 – 2004 for Steering Column Lock
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number:
04V060000
Recall Date:
  February 06, 2004

Component: Steering: Column Locking: Anti-Theft Device

Potential Number Of Units Affected: 126,624

Summary:
On certain passenger vehicles equipped with electronic column lock systems (ECL), when the ignition switch is turned to lock, the ECL prevents turning of the steering system. When the vehicle is started, the ECL unlocks the steering system. The vehicle is designed so that if the column fails to unlock when the vehicle is started and the customer tries to drive, the fuel supply will be shut off so that the vehicle cannot move when the vehicle cannot be steered. If voltage at the powertrain control module is low or interrupted, however, the fuel shut off may not occur and the vehicle can be accelerated while the steering system is locked.

Consequence:
If this occurs, a crash could occur without warning.

Remedy:
On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the dealer will disable the steering column lock by removing the column lock plate. When the ignition key is removed, the transmission shifter will lock but the steering column will not lock. On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the dealer will reprogram the powertrain control module. The steering column on these vehicles will continue to lock when the key is removed. Owner notification is expected to begin during the second quarter of 2004. Owners should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438.

Notes:
GM RECALL NO. 04006. - Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration’s auto safety hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236

CORVETTE TO BE OFFICIAL PACE CAR OF DAYTONA 500
. . . The 2004 Corvette Coupe, America's performance icon, will pace this year's Daytona 500, the opening race of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, on Feb. 15. The announcement was made yesterday at Daytona International Speedway by Jim Campbell, marketing director for Chevy Racing. "This is the final year of production for the current fifth-generation Corvette ? and there is no better way to celebrate its success than to pace the Daytona 500, one of the legendary and most prestigious events in motorsports," said Campbell. For the 2004 season, Chevy will pace 26 Nextel Cup events, 18 Busch events and 13 Craftsman Truck races ? a total of 57 national events and 21 more than last year. This month alone, during Speedweeks, Corvette will pace four events at Daytona International Speedway, including the Budweiser Shootout, the Gatorade 125-Mile qualifying races, the Hershey's Kisses 300 and the Daytona 500.

The all-new 2005 Corvette just edged out the all-new 2005 Mustang as the favorite vehicle of visitors to the Official Web Site of the North American International Auto Show 2004 on MSN Autos. The 2005 Chevrolet Corvette and 2005 Ford Mustang are new production versions of American automotive icons, and unlike many of the concept vehicles that debuted at the Detroit show, they will be available in showrooms later this year.

The 2005 Corvette is powered by a new LS2 6.0-liter small-block V8 that produces an estimated 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. In terms of overall dimensions, the C6 is more compact than its predecessor, measuring 5 inches shorter and about one inch narrower than the current Corvette. The wheels increase to 18 inches in diameter at the front and 19 inches at the rear.

Nine vehicles were nominated by the editors of MSN Autos as  significant vehicles of the show, representing a cross section of production and concept vehicles. Visitors to the MSN Autos NAIAS Web site then voted for their favorite show vehicle. Photos of each vehicle were displayed online and the photos were randomly served into a special grid to ensure fairness and to prevent any particular vehicle from consistently appearing in a favorable position. Blocking technology was used to ensure that no individual could vote more than once.

USA Today Spy Photographer Sneaks Shot of New Corvette!
C5 Registry Members
– Don’t miss James Healey’s article on the new C6 Corvette, complete with spy photos taken in San Francisco. His article can be found in Monday, November 24, 2003 USA Today Money section on page 4B or you can read about it online at http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-11-23-corvette_x.htm

Within the article the GM line of the day has to be spoken by Chevy’s Tom Wilkinson saying, "Somebody who knew what to look for caught it". He was referring to three photos taken while the C6 was sitting on an OPEN truck carrier and sent all around the web-world. The Registry has about 700+ members in California, with 150+ in the greater San Francisco area, not to mention all those who are a part of many other great Corvette websites, the only thing we can say is… WHAT WERE THEY THINKING ???

Z15s Are Leading Production with LeMans Blue!
C5 Registry Members
– The word’s just in…Convertibles painted with LeMans Blue (RPO 19U) are becoming the number one produced convertible color so far this year.  If current trends continue, LeMans Blue will turn out to be a very popular color for the final year of C5 convertibles.  Currently it seems as though the Coupe has not caught on with the Commemorative buyer.  Traditional Corvette colors are dominating the Coupe’s production.

Just to clarify, there is NO constraint on non-commemorative Z06s with their Nurburgring-inspired chassis tuning.  All five Z06 colors are available, of course without the hood, decals and wheels, but you save $4,500!

In June of 2003, Autoweek Magazine published the "Spy" photos of the C6 Corvette.  Tom Kowaleski Vice President of GMNA Communications made this statement: "For everyone who has written in anxiously anticipating the new Corvette C6 ---  Great to hear from you. Despite Autoweek's attempt to peek behind the covers, we can only say, you haven't seen the real car yet. You won't be disappointed!"

However, in September of 2003, GM Released this Official photo of the 2005 Corvette C6.

Z16s Are Now Ready To Roll!
C5 Registry Members
– Great news! The word’s just in that the carbon fiber hood/paint issue which had stopped Commemorative Z06 production has been solved. Our hats off to the hard working folks at our favorite toy store who spent countless weeks and hours finding a solution so that this very limited performance C5 can once again be ready for our members waiting arms! Word is Z16 production should be in full swing by mid-October so they will be able to reach their goal of 2,100 Commemorative Z06s produced for the USA market. Currently it is estimated that only a handful of Z06/Z16s that have been shipped to a very few dealers.

Important Information!!! Important Information!!! Important Information!!!
C5 Registry Members
- We wanted to make you aware as quickly as possible that Directors Dan Adovasio and Jake Drennon will NOT be in attendance at the 9th Annual National Corvette Museum Labor Day Event. It is unfortunate that this year Dan and Jake have business obligations back in Florida and must return after the Corvettes @ Carlisle event. This could not be avoided as their positions with the Insurance industry in Florida required this.

We know that the NCM Labor Day event will be a fabulous one and encourage all of our members who are planning to attend to have a great time. According to the NCM website at www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/celebration/agenda.shtml  this year's jam-packed event will be full of things to do and see, from Thursday August 28th thru Sunday August 31st. The centerpiece of the event will be the Hall of Fame dinner at 6:00 pm on Friday August 29th inducting Noland Adams and Robert S. Morrison.

Of course, Friday, Saturday and Sunday will continue to be jam-packed with seminars, drag racing, auto crossing and the most fantastic display of Corvettes one might see anywhere! (Of course, we're partial to the C5s in attendance!) You won't want to miss Vendor's Row either!

Plans are still underway for the big event at the Eckler's Reunion in Titusville, FL (hosted by Jake) and the Road Atlanta Petite LeMans in Braselton, GA (hosted by Dan) on the weekend of October 17th and 18th. (Yes, they're both on the same weekend so we're doing a "twin spin"!) Check out the details on www.c5registry.com/events.htm

More Power To You!!!
Thanks goodness!
GM is listening after paying a bunch of warranty claims on their AGM battery!

It is well known that the AGM battery 9" size (catalog #2277) installed as OEM equipment for the last several years in C5 Corvettes has been, in our opinion, a discharging malfunction. It’s known for leaking from the terminal bolt-in points and if you don’t drive your C5 daily, it loses power quickly. The final insult is if you ever have to have it replaced under warranty the dealer never has one in stock so they must always "overnight" one as a replacement part from Delco, so that you lose the use of your C5 (the Corvette of your dreams!) for another day!

Now, for the good news! # 78-H6YR has arrived and is the warranty replacement for the AGM! Who is the new power source on the block? It is a brand new 675 cold cranking amps (compared to the AGMs 500 cold cranking amps) 10" monster (vs. 9" AGM) with a 110 minute reserve (AGM only gave us an 80 minute reserve). This side terminal black beauty with carry handle has arrived! And not a minute too soon!

So, when your AGM fails (and we know it will!) start memorizing the number 78-H6YR.

You and your dealer will be glad you did!

LE MANS, France:The two "Blue Corvettes finished 2nd and 3rd in GTS Class, just behind a 350 Ferarri at th 24 Hours of LeMans. The final results were:

1st- Davies, Enge, Kox - Veloqx Prodrive - Ferrari 550 M
2nd - Gavin, Collins, Pilgrim-Corvette Racing Corvette C5-R

3rd- Fellows, O’Connell, Freon-Corvette Racing Corvette C5-R

“Our Corvette team overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles today and did a great job,” said Doug Fehan, Program Manager for Corvette Racing. “The men and women on this team know how to adapt and overcome, and that’s exactly what the fans saw today. We faced all types of challenges, from finding tiny brackets broken in our throttle linkage to changing gearboxes and fighting intense heat. We wish that we would have been able to win the GTS class, but finishing both our cars for the fourth year in a row says a lot about the quality of our team and our Corvettes.”

GM's Chevy Corvette C5-R Team Re-enlists With U.S. Navy

DETROIT - GM Racing and the U.S. Armed Forces will team up over the next several weeks at numerous racing and military installations around the world. Beginning with a goodwill tour of several U.S. Navy installations following the Corvette Racing team's practice session at Le Mans, key team members, including all six Corvette C5-R drivers, will spend a week visiting military personnel stationed overseas. This year the team will spend time at four U.S. Military locations in the Mediterranean.

"We are very proud of this connection we have," said Gary Claudio, Marketing Manager for Corvette Racing. "This started as a way for GM Racing to give something back to our military personnel by contributing just a little bit to those protecting and serving on our behalf. It's something we - as a corporation - are immensely proud to be a part of."

Last year, the team toured several sites including the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain bringing gifts, signing autographs and swapping stories with thousands of navy personnel.

Johnny O'Connell, Corvette Racing driver and winner of this year's 12 Hours of Sebring, is looking forward to the return adventure.

"While we were there in 2002, it was a bit strange in that the troops would look upon us as heroes for racing Corvettes," said O'Connell. "They stood in seriously long lines to get autographs even though they had just completed a long shift of their own. Honestly, compared to them, we aren't heroes at all. They are."

The Corvette C5-R team will play host to dozens of U.S. Naval officers throughout the racing season as a part of the Navy Pit Crew, a program wherein ten sailors will be selected from across America to join the Corvette Racing team as special guests at three American Le Mans Series races. The selected sailors will get involved in pit activities and spend time with the Corvette Racing drivers throughout the course of the race.

GM has a long, proud history of working with the U.S. Armed Forces. In addition to various manufacturing efforts throughout American history, the automaker has produced more than 80,000 military vehicles, from largely production-based platforms, since the mid-1980s.

From Mr. Dave Hill at the C5 Birthday Bash:
"While the Z06 already had an excellent blend of extreme handling capability and surprising ride quality, we're never satisfied," Hill says. "The enhancements for 2004 provide a bit more poised and smooth response, connecting the car better to the driver's input, without the penalty of ride harshness."

These refinements are a result of extensive testing and development, including several high-speed test sessions at Germany's famed Nurburgring circuit. Corvette Z06 is one of only a precious few cars to have broken the 8-minute barrier for lap times at Nurburgring. Corvette testing at Nurburgring isn't just about raw speed, as the Z06 provides plenty of that. Engineers gathered important learning on tuning the chassis to enhance the poise, confidence and smoothness of response, attributes that are of great importance under the severe demands of a 14-mile course that has approximately 170 turns and virtually constant elevation changes.

"Nurburgring, at the extreme edge of the envelope, provides conditions that can't be easily duplicated anywhere else," says Hill. "But, even for the Z06, we spend considerable time ensuring we don't make adjustments that compromise the normal daily driving character of the car." CLICK HERE FOR FULL PRESS RELEASE!

GM to Offer Overnight Test Drives
A new General Motors Corp. incentive will allow car and truck shoppers to test drive a vehicle overnight.

The offer will last from April 15 through July 31 and will apply to nearly every GM model, excluding the Hummer H1, Cadillac XLR, Chevrolet SSR and Chevrolet Corvette (The Good Ones! ), company officials said.

"We want to tell our quality story," spokeswoman Marcia McGee told The Detroit News in Tuesday's edition. "We think a lot of people out there, for one reason or another, don't consider GM cars. We want them to see how our quality's improved."

The test drive offer is a continuation of GM's effort to lure buyers at a time when consumer confidence is lagging. Sales at the world's largest automaker fell 19 percent in February and 3.3 percent in March.

Customers may test drive the vehicles for 24 hours and are limited to 100 miles. The vehicle must remain in the dealer's state.

Drivers must leave their current vehicle at the dealership and must have insurance and a valid driver's license, McGee said.

SEBRING, Fla. – Corvette Racing’s Chevrolet Corvette C5-R powered the team of Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell and Franck Freon to victory in the GTS class of the opening round of the American Le Mans Series at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. After spending the majority of the race trailing the #4 C5-R, driven by Oliver Gavin, Kelly Collins and Andy Pilgrim, Ron Fellows took the lead after 283 laps, when Oliver Gavin retired due to complications with his transmission. Despite a few battles for position in the GTS class during the first hour, the Corvettes lead every lap of the race thereafter.

C5 Registry Member Stan Kessel [V0104], brings to are attention an article on the "Autoweek website with photos... Take a look at an Italian designed Corvette...

"At this year’s Swiss meeting, son Fabrizio Giugiaro wanted a true showoff in the show car tradition, not a concept so much as a dream car. A spectacular conversation-sparker. Whimsy, sensuality and respect all rolled into one with no express thoughts of volume production. The results you see here, the Italdesign-Giugiaro Corvette Moray to be set loose March 4 at 3:30 p.m. Geneva time."

It’s said that Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
Corvette Fever wrote a wonderful article in their April 2003 Edition called “Gold Rush” (found on pages 48 – 49) about one of the rare 1998 Aztec Gold C5’s. Our congratulations to Rosco Hanson, who is the current owner of this 22,000-mile C5, which he drives regularly. These are truly very rare and very special C5’s.

What we found interesting about the article is what the writer, Dustin Dwyer wrote in his fourth paragraph. If you go to www.c5registry.com/Production/aztec.htm and read what we wrote about the Aztec Collector’s Gold back on May 17, 1998, you will notice more than passing similarity to what Mr. Dwyer has written for Corvette Fever. We don’t mind ever being a historical reference resource for all things C5 related. We are glad to help out all the Corvette magazines that are on the newsstands with our historically correct C5 information, BUT we just wish they would give us credit for it, or at least asked permission to copy our web page. Of course, we appreciate Andy Bolig, photographer for Corvette Fever, for photographing Mr. Hanson’s beautiful Aztec Gold C5 with our C5 REGISTRY logo clearly shown on the top of the windshield

The plant intends to evaluate sold orders on a capacity constraint basis for those of you who have sold orders in the Order Bank for either color. 21U Electron Blue escapes the "early hatchet" due to its overwhelming DEMAND and should continue to the end of the 2003 model year.  Members, see January 23 MOHN for a 2004 model year color update!

NASHVILLE - Chevrolet Motor Division today announced updated plans for the extensive Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration taking place in and around Nashville in late June 2003.

At a news conference prior to the start of the Nashville Auto Show, Rick Baldick, Corvette marketing director announced, "In less than six months, you're going see Corvette taking over the Nashville landscape. We're planning on a truly impressive number of activities going on in order to celebrate this landmark anniversary in grand style. A 50th Anniversary only happens once, and we're determined to make Corvette's one to remember."

In addition to the activities in Nashville, Chevrolet is offering a special 50th Anniversary Edition package, available on 2003 Corvette coupe and convertible models. It includes special 50th Anniversary Red exterior paint, specific badging, unique Shale interior including color coordinated instrument panel and console, and champagne-painted anniversary wheels with special emblems. It also features embroidered badges on the seats and floormats, padded door armrests and grips and a Shale convertible top. The Anniversary Edition includes the standard Corvette LS1 engine, as well as Magnetic Selective Ride Control. A special 50th Anniversary Edition of the 2003 Corvette was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 last May, marking the fifth time that a Corvette has paced the race.

For the past two years, the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study has named the Corvette the "Best Premium Sports Car." The 2002 Corvette also received MotorWeek TV's "Drivers' Choice Award" for Best Performance Car and was named "Best Sports Car" in MONEY Magazine's 2002 Car Guide.

The plans for the Corvette 50th Anniversary celebration were announced at the fourth annual Nashville International Auto and Truck Show. As part of a special exhibit, Vintage Corvettes, historic memorabilia, a replica of the C5-R race car and the 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette will be on display at the Convention Center throughout the auto show.

As many as 12,000 Corvette owners and enthusiasts will attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Coliseum in Nashville, June 27-28, 2003. Activities include: car displays, parades, technical seminars, restoration clinics, heritage displays, racing exhibits, elements from the Chevy Rock & Roll Tour, and a major rock & roll concert.

Up to 15,000 hotel rooms in 19 area hotels are expected to be booked over a three-day period. The event is expected to generate millions of dollars for the city of Nashville.

Nashville is 60 miles from the National Corvette Museum and the Corvette manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Ky. The National Corvette Museum is organizing a caravan of approximately 7,000 Corvettes to be driven from every state into Bowling Green prior to the activities in Nashville.

Chevrolet is holding the Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration to celebrate a half-century with America's favorite sports car and to thank loyal owners and enthusiasts. "There's nothing to compare with the devotion of the Corvette community," said Baldick. "That's why Chevrolet is answering the call for a major blowout. You name something Corvette; we've got it."

Additional information about the Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration can be found at www.corvette50th.com. Caravan information can be found at www.nationalcorvettecaravan.com.
