USA Today Spy Photographer Sneaks Shot of New Corvette!
C5 Registry Members
– Don’t miss James Healey’s article on the new C6 Corvette, complete with spy photos taken in San Francisco. His article can be found in Monday, November 24, 2003 USA Today Money section on page 4B or you can read about it online at http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-11-23-corvette_x.htm

Within the article the GM line of the day has to be spoken by Chevy’s Tom Wilkinson saying, "Somebody who knew what to look for caught it". He was referring to three photos taken while the C6 was sitting on an OPEN truck carrier and sent all around the web-world. The Registry has about 700+ members in California, with 150+ in the greater San Francisco area, not to mention all those who are a part of many other great Corvette websites, the only thing we can say is… WHAT WERE THEY THINKING ???

Z15s Are Leading Production with LeMans Blue!
C5 Registry Members
– The word’s just in…Convertibles painted with LeMans Blue (RPO 19U) are becoming the number one produced convertible color so far this year.  If current trends continue, LeMans Blue will turn out to be a very popular color for the final year of C5 convertibles.  Currently it seems as though the Coupe has not caught on with the Commemorative buyer.  Traditional Corvette colors are dominating the Coupe’s production.

Just to clarify, there is NO constraint on non-commemorative Z06s with their Nurburgring-inspired chassis tuning.  All five Z06 colors are available, of course without the hood, decals and wheels, but you save $4,500!

September 21, 2003
In June of 2003, Autoweek Magazine published the "Spy" photos of the C6 Corvette.  Tom Kowaleski Vice President of GMNA Communications made this statement: "For everyone who has written in anxiously anticipating the new Corvette C6 ---  Great to hear from you. Despite Autoweek's attempt to peek behind the covers, we can only say, you haven't seen the real car yet. You won't be disappointed!"

However, in September of 2003, GM Released this Official photo of the 2005 Corvette C6.
Real thing ? Maybe. Ringer ? Maybe... Anyway, here it is for your discussion. [CLICK HERE]

Z16s Are Now Ready To Roll!
C5 Registry Members
– Great news! The word’s just in that the carbon fiber hood/paint issue which had stopped Commemorative Z06 production has been solved. Our hats off to the hard working folks at our favorite toy store who spent countless weeks and hours finding a solution so that this very limited performance C5 can once again be ready for our members waiting arms! Word is Z16 production should be in full swing by mid-October so they will be able to reach their goal of 2,100 Commemorative Z06s produced for the USA market. Currently it is estimated that only a handful of Z06/Z16s that have been shipped to a very few dealers.

Arctic White Is Back!
C5 Registry Members
– Monday, September 8th - Arctic White’s hold was removed today which is leading to nearly 7% of this week’s production will be in this returning color from the 2000 model year. All those orders that have been held up from the start of 2004 production are flowing down the Bowling Green Assembly line. Based on the conversations from our members at Corvettes @ Carlisle and our most recent e-mails, folks are thrilled that this extremely better looking white is back. I know there are quite a few of you that have been waiting for this because you have been wanting an Arctic White exterior with Torch Red interior so that you can park it next to your 1953

Important Information!!! Important Information!!! Important Information!!!
C5 Registry Members
- We wanted to make you aware as quickly as possible that Directors Dan Adovasio and Jake Drennon will NOT be in attendance at the 9th Annual National Corvette Museum Labor Day Event. It is unfortunate that this year Dan and Jake have business obligations back in Florida and must return after the Corvettes @ Carlisle event. This could not be avoided as their positions with the Insurance industry in Florida required this.

We know that the NCM Labor Day event will be a fabulous one and encourage all of our members who are planning to attend to have a great time. According to the NCM website at www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/celebration/agenda.shtml  this year's jam-packed event will be full of things to do and see, from Thursday August 28th thru Sunday August 31st. The centerpiece of the event will be the Hall of Fame dinner at 6:00 pm on Friday August 29th inducting Noland Adams and Robert S. Morrison.

Of course, Friday, Saturday and Sunday will continue to be jam-packed with seminars, drag racing, auto crossing and the most fantastic display of Corvettes one might see anywhere! (Of course, we're partial to the C5s in attendance!) You won't want to miss Vendor's Row either!

Plans are still underway for the big event at the Eckler's Reunion in Titusville, FL (hosted by Jake) and the Road Atlanta Petite LeMans in Braselton, GA (hosted by Dan) on the weekend of October 17th and 18th. (Yes, they're both on the same weekend so we're doing a "twin spin"!) Check out the details on www.c5registry.com/events.htm

More Power To You!!!
Thanks goodness!
GM is listening after paying a bunch of warranty claims on their AGM battery!

It is well known that the AGM battery 9" size (catalog #2277) installed as OEM equipment for the last several years in C5 Corvettes has been, in our opinion, a discharging malfunction. It’s known for leaking from the terminal bolt-in points and if you don’t drive your C5 daily, it loses power quickly. The final insult is if you ever have to have it replaced under warranty the dealer never has one in stock so they must always "overnight" one as a replacement part from Delco, so that you lose the use of your C5 (the Corvette of your dreams!) for another day!

Now, for the good news! # 78-H6YR has arrived and is the warranty replacement for the AGM! Who is the new power source on the block? It is a brand new 675 cold cranking amps (compared to the AGMs 500 cold cranking amps) 10" monster (vs. 9" AGM) with a 110 minute reserve (AGM only gave us an 80 minute reserve). This side terminal black beauty with carry handle has arrived! And not a minute too soon!

So, when your AGM fails (and we know it will!) start memorizing the number 78-H6YR.

You and your dealer will be glad you did!

LE MANS, France:The two "Blue Corvettes finished 2nd and 3rd in GTS Class, just behind a 350 Ferarri at th 24 Hours of LeMans. The final results were:

1st- Davies, Enge, Kox - Veloqx Prodrive - Ferrari 550 M
2nd - Gavin, Collins, Pilgrim-Corvette Racing Corvette C5-R

3rd- Fellows, O’Connell, Freon-Corvette Racing Corvette C5-R

“Our Corvette team overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles today and did a great job,” said Doug Fehan, Program Manager for Corvette Racing. “The men and women on this team know how to adapt and overcome, and that’s exactly what the fans saw today. We faced all types of challenges, from finding tiny brackets broken in our throttle linkage to changing gearboxes and fighting intense heat. We wish that we would have been able to win the GTS class, but finishing both our cars for the fourth year in a row says a lot about the quality of our team and our Corvettes.”

GM's Chevy Corvette C5-R Team Re-enlists With U.S. Navy

DETROIT - GM Racing and the U.S. Armed Forces will team up over the next several weeks at numerous racing and military installations around the world. Beginning with a goodwill tour of several U.S. Navy installations following the Corvette Racing team's practice session at Le Mans, key team members, including all six Corvette C5-R drivers, will spend a week visiting military personnel stationed overseas. This year the team will spend time at four U.S. Military locations in the Mediterranean.

"We are very proud of this connection we have," said Gary Claudio, Marketing Manager for Corvette Racing. "This started as a way for GM Racing to give something back to our military personnel by contributing just a little bit to those protecting and serving on our behalf. It's something we - as a corporation - are immensely proud to be a part of."

Last year, the team toured several sites including the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain bringing gifts, signing autographs and swapping stories with thousands of navy personnel.

Johnny O'Connell, Corvette Racing driver and winner of this year's 12 Hours of Sebring, is looking forward to the return adventure.

"While we were there in 2002, it was a bit strange in that the troops would look upon us as heroes for racing Corvettes," said O'Connell. "They stood in seriously long lines to get autographs even though they had just completed a long shift of their own. Honestly, compared to them, we aren't heroes at all. They are."

The Corvette C5-R team will play host to dozens of U.S. Naval officers throughout the racing season as a part of the Navy Pit Crew, a program wherein ten sailors will be selected from across America to join the Corvette Racing team as special guests at three American Le Mans Series races. The selected sailors will get involved in pit activities and spend time with the Corvette Racing drivers throughout the course of the race.

GM has a long, proud history of working with the U.S. Armed Forces. In addition to various manufacturing efforts throughout American history, the automaker has produced more than 80,000 military vehicles, from largely production-based platforms, since the mid-1980s.

From Mr. Dave Hill at the C5 Birthday Bash:
"While the Z06 already had an excellent blend of extreme handling capability and surprising ride quality, we're never satisfied," Hill says. "The enhancements for 2004 provide a bit more poised and smooth response, connecting the car better to the driver's input, without the penalty of ride harshness."

These refinements are a result of extensive testing and development, including several high-speed test sessions at Germany's famed Nurburgring circuit. Corvette Z06 is one of only a precious few cars to have broken the 8-minute barrier for lap times at Nurburgring. Corvette testing at Nurburgring isn't just about raw speed, as the Z06 provides plenty of that. Engineers gathered important learning on tuning the chassis to enhance the poise, confidence and smoothness of response, attributes that are of great importance under the severe demands of a 14-mile course that has approximately 170 turns and virtually constant elevation changes.

"Nurburgring, at the extreme edge of the envelope, provides conditions that can't be easily duplicated anywhere else," says Hill. "But, even for the Z06, we spend considerable time ensuring we don't make adjustments that compromise the normal daily driving character of the car." CLICK HERE FOR FULL PRESS RELEASE!

GM to Offer Overnight Test Drives
A new General Motors Corp. incentive will allow car and truck shoppers to test drive a vehicle overnight.

The offer will last from April 15 through July 31 and will apply to nearly every GM model, excluding the Hummer H1, Cadillac XLR, Chevrolet SSR and Chevrolet Corvette (The Good Ones! ), company officials said.

"We want to tell our quality story," spokeswoman Marcia McGee told The Detroit News in Tuesday's edition. "We think a lot of people out there, for one reason or another, don't consider GM cars. We want them to see how our quality's improved."

The test drive offer is a continuation of GM's effort to lure buyers at a time when consumer confidence is lagging. Sales at the world's largest automaker fell 19 percent in February and 3.3 percent in March.

Customers may test drive the vehicles for 24 hours and are limited to 100 miles. The vehicle must remain in the dealer's state.

Drivers must leave their current vehicle at the dealership and must have insurance and a valid driver's license, McGee said.

SEBRING, Fla. – Corvette Racing’s Chevrolet Corvette C5-R powered the team of Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell and Franck Freon to victory in the GTS class of the opening round of the American Le Mans Series at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. After spending the majority of the race trailing the #4 C5-R, driven by Oliver Gavin, Kelly Collins and Andy Pilgrim, Ron Fellows took the lead after 283 laps, when Oliver Gavin retired due to complications with his transmission. Despite a few battles for position in the GTS class during the first hour, the Corvettes lead every lap of the race thereafter.

C5 Registry Member Stan Kessel [V0104], brings to are attention an article on the "Autoweek website with photos... Take a look at an Italian designed Corvette...

"At this year’s Swiss meeting, son Fabrizio Giugiaro wanted a true showoff in the show car tradition, not a concept so much as a dream car. A spectacular conversation-sparker. Whimsy, sensuality and respect all rolled into one with no express thoughts of volume production. The results you see here, the Italdesign-Giugiaro Corvette Moray to be set loose March 4 at 3:30 p.m. Geneva time."

It’s said that Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery
Corvette Fever wrote a wonderful article in their April 2003 Edition called “Gold Rush” (found on pages 48 – 49) about one of the rare 1998 Aztec Gold C5’s. Our congratulations to Rosco Hanson, who is the current owner of this 22,000-mile C5, which he drives regularly. These are truly very rare and very special C5’s.

What we found interesting about the article is what the writer, Dustin Dwyer wrote in his fourth paragraph. If you go to www.c5registry.com/Production/aztec.htm and read what we wrote about the Aztec Collector’s Gold back on May 17, 1998, you will notice more than passing similarity to what Mr. Dwyer has written for Corvette Fever. We don’t mind ever being a historical reference resource for all things C5 related. We are glad to help out all the Corvette magazines that are on the newsstands with our historically correct C5 information, BUT we just wish they would give us credit for it, or at least asked permission to copy our web page. Of course, we appreciate Andy Bolig, photographer for Corvette Fever, for photographing Mr. Hanson’s beautiful Aztec Gold C5 with our C5 REGISTRY logo clearly shown on the top of the windshield

C5 Paint Color Termination Update . . . .
As we first broke the news on November 28, 2002, about the discontinuation of Quicksilver and Speedway White, we have received information that indicates the date has been set for the "termination." 12U Quicksilver and 40U Speedway White will terminate TODAY Wednesday, January 29, 2003!

The plant intends to evaluate sold orders on a capacity constraint basis for those of you who have sold orders in the Order Bank for either color. 21U Electron Blue escapes the "early hatchet" due to its overwhelming DEMAND and should continue to the end of the 2003 model year.  Members, see January 23 MOHN for a 2004 model year color update!

Production of the XLR will switch to manufacturing validation build 4 (MVB) some time late next week or the week after, depending on availability of parts. According to John Spencer, production launch manager, the team is just finishing  MVB 3 production .  Eight cars were build turning this run.

On Thursday the 23rd  and Friday the 24th, John Spencer, Jim Danahy, Wil Cooksey, Rick Robbins, Lisa Pirtle, John Love, and several performance car team members from Detroit, will take the MVB 3 builds on a Quality Evaluation Ride.

NASHVILLE - Chevrolet Motor Division today announced updated plans for the extensive Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration taking place in and around Nashville in late June 2003.

At a news conference prior to the start of the Nashville Auto Show, Rick Baldick, Corvette marketing director announced, "In less than six months, you're going see Corvette taking over the Nashville landscape. We're planning on a truly impressive number of activities going on in order to celebrate this landmark anniversary in grand style. A 50th Anniversary only happens once, and we're determined to make Corvette's one to remember."

In addition to the activities in Nashville, Chevrolet is offering a special 50th Anniversary Edition package, available on 2003 Corvette coupe and convertible models. It includes special 50th Anniversary Red exterior paint, specific badging, unique Shale interior including color coordinated instrument panel and console, and champagne-painted anniversary wheels with special emblems. It also features embroidered badges on the seats and floormats, padded door armrests and grips and a Shale convertible top. The Anniversary Edition includes the standard Corvette LS1 engine, as well as Magnetic Selective Ride Control. A special 50th Anniversary Edition of the 2003 Corvette was the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500 last May, marking the fifth time that a Corvette has paced the race.

For the past two years, the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study has named the Corvette the "Best Premium Sports Car." The 2002 Corvette also received MotorWeek TV's "Drivers' Choice Award" for Best Performance Car and was named "Best Sports Car" in MONEY Magazine's 2002 Car Guide.

The plans for the Corvette 50th Anniversary celebration were announced at the fourth annual Nashville International Auto and Truck Show. As part of a special exhibit, Vintage Corvettes, historic memorabilia, a replica of the C5-R race car and the 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette will be on display at the Convention Center throughout the auto show.

As many as 12,000 Corvette owners and enthusiasts will attend the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Coliseum in Nashville, June 27-28, 2003. Activities include: car displays, parades, technical seminars, restoration clinics, heritage displays, racing exhibits, elements from the Chevy Rock & Roll Tour, and a major rock & roll concert.

Up to 15,000 hotel rooms in 19 area hotels are expected to be booked over a three-day period. The event is expected to generate millions of dollars for the city of Nashville.

Nashville is 60 miles from the National Corvette Museum and the Corvette manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Ky. The National Corvette Museum is organizing a caravan of approximately 7,000 Corvettes to be driven from every state into Bowling Green prior to the activities in Nashville.

Chevrolet is holding the Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration to celebrate a half-century with America's favorite sports car and to thank loyal owners and enthusiasts. "There's nothing to compare with the devotion of the Corvette community," said Baldick. "That's why Chevrolet is answering the call for a major blowout. You name something Corvette; we've got it."
